The Re-Design Disease

A re-design of my website I am working on

A re-design of my website I am working on

As any designer out there knows, it is impossible to stop re-designing one’s own site. Completely impossible. So, even though the current design of my site/blog is the only one to get me any publicity, and overall I think quite successful, I am in the process of creating a new design. The main reason for this is because my portfolio, as it stands, was an afterthought to this layout and design. I will begin applying for internships in the spring at (hopefully) some of the best design studios on the East Coast, and my portfolio should be the center of my site, not secondary to some pseudo-blog. Also, I am required to make a portfolio site for my Interactive Media course, and that seems like a pretty good excuse to give into the constant urge to redesign.

If you are terribly interested, my redesign will be posted on my server here at school, I would love some thoughtful feedback if you feel like it:

  1. I love the redesign , The site looks very sophisticated and professional with great use of white space which I love. The site also puts content as king which is the job as a designer , however you have HTML – the structure layer , and CSS the Presentation layer , but i feel you lack the third Javascript for interactivity. Instead of the user having to scroll maybe integrate a JS scroller with a fancy menu with project names? or Numbers? or just next and previous. besides that its a great look. even in my 22″ screen.

  2. I am with you on that one Kip, thanks for the feedback! I unfortunately don’t have any real skill/knowledge with JS, so I will have to trick a programmer into helping me accomplish my goals… Thanks again!

  3. Just ask, I can help.

  4. A very generous offer, when the redesign is complete from an html and css standpoint I will probably be doing just that!
