Two Faced Business Cards

I know it’s been quiet around here, but here is a business card I created for local photographer Josh Sisk. Josh has two distinct sides to his photography practice: that of a seasoned, professional studio photographer, and that of a scrappy concert photographer not afraid to put himself or his equipment on the line to get the best shot. In a dark venue or black-lit club, the glowing lettering highlights Josh’s gutsy gig photographer side, while in a well lit studio or office the cleanly typset information speaks to his professionalism and experience.

These are just the proofs, hence the mediocre documentation. Will take better shots when I’ve got a nice big stack of them.

Helmet Cam!

I made myself a helmet cam this morning (a simple 1/4inch bolt through my Craigslist motorcycle helmet) to record some things… more on that to come later! Process shots after the “jump.”

Andy Boy Brand

Andy Boy.

I have my friends and coworkers at MICA‘s Student Activities Office to thank for this awesome find. Been working hard there all week to get ready for new student orientation, which will be consuming all of my time next week.

I wish I could develop a self-brand with this much character, I just don’t quite know what my unique character is yet.

“Heirloom” Update

I have conducted the first few rounds of interviews and photo shoots for my “Heirloom” project that I am getting pretty excited about. I figured I would post some shots from today’s work in hopes of enticing more of you to participate! THIS COULD BE YOU!

Typesetting Introduction

We finally began setting some lead type in my letterpress class, and the experience was tremendously rewarding. Something about the whole process is really giving me a different perspective on design in general; I expect I will take a lot from class. Just during these simple settings I gained a whole new appreciation for the personality and character of Gill Sans, one of my least favorite typefaces. There will definitely be more to come in the letterpress department; we get to start more directly designing things soon.

Whale Sharks and a Hiatus

My posting plummeted a bit in the last couple weeks, this is because I was in the midst of midterms and a lovely spring break roadtrip adventure with Anthony Mattox and Dai Foldes. I have returned from my little hiatus and will be intermittently posting again, as usual. Meanwhile enjoy some pictures from the fantastic Georgia Aquarium! (more…)

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!

To all of you who celebrate Christmas, I hope yours is spectacular and spent with your friends, family, and loved ones. To everyone else, have a great holiday season (also with your friends, family, and loved ones), and I hope my terribly cute nephew makes you smile.

I will be busy doing absolutely nothing work related for the next few days, but I will be back posting before the New Year.

Environmental Lettering Project

Typography 1 with Ellen Lupton… YAY.
First assignment: Environmental Lettering. These are Helvetica letters hand-cut out of contact paper and affixed to a window in MICA‘s new Gateway building; positioned in such a way that they appear to be sitting on top of the nearby State Building.
