1,750 words and symbols I created in one week

Aren’t we all always searching for inspiration? Perhaps you browse CSS Remix to get the gears turning on your latest web layout; or maybe you take a dip in Logo Pond to help your brainstorming on a logotype. Did you ever think about sitting down and using free association to come up with 1,750 “random” words and then drawing each and every one of those words? No. You probably haven’t. But you should, and here’s why:

Another shot of the mayhem

Another shot of the mayhem

I just finished doing this week long exercise, my first assignment in Graphic Design 1 with Bernard Caniffe. I must say that even I was surprised with some of the things that popped out of my head. We started with 35 words we were assigned, and from each of those words, we had to use free association to come up with 50 related words. Representing a lot of the things I came up with, such as “sarcasm” and “emotion”, visually, was a difficult and interesting challenge.

These near 2,000 graphics give me an essentially endless well of inspiration to draw upon for the second part of the assignment, selecting and refining four of them. The best part is, all of this is from my head; no shiny, 2.0 site to thank/blame!

That’s awesome! Could I get a list of the 35 words? Thanks!

Thanks for the comment Ryan, but unfortunately I do not think I should post the list of words, as they are Bernard’s assignment.
